What is The Great Hobby Hop?

The Great Hobby Hop is a hands-on community event where curiosity meets creativity. Explore a variety of hobbies in one place through quick, beginner-friendly experiences led by local makers, artists, and enthusiasts. Try your hand at new skills, meet like-minded people, and discover a hobby that sparks your interest. Whether you're looking for a creative outlet, a new challenge, or simply a fun way to spend an afternoon, The Great Hobby Hop is your chance to sample, learn, and connect—one hobby at a time. 

Each month, join us at a new location and check out 5-10 rotating hobbyist will lead hands-on, beginner-friendly lessons or demos on your new, favorite hobby. Check out every hobby from arts and crafts, folk skills, gardening, cooking, music, and more!

How it works

Each Hobby Hop event, 5-10 hobby instructors working in a rotating location will lead mini, beginner-friendly hands-on lessons on a curated, diverse selection of hobby offerings. 

Event is free and open to the public. If you'd like to sample a hobby or two, look for schedule of instructors and classes online and day of to choose which you'd like to try. Hone in on one or dabble all day! Some classes may fill up, so sign up early to guarantee your spot. Class prices are set up instructors to cover instruction time and materials and range from $5-$25. You can purchase online or buy tickets at the event. Class times range from 30-60 minutes and not all instructors will offer multiple classes....so choose wisely!

Instructors may also be selling tools and materials or finished products they have made at their booths. Be sure to support local! 

Instructors

If you are interested in instructing a particular hobby. Submit via email your name, contact information, and hobby. Instructors do not have to have experience teaching their hobby but should feel comfortable and confident sharing with other others. 

Instructor should decide cost per person, if there is a class maximum, the length of time the class will take, how many classes they would like to teach during the event, and if there is an age limit to participate. 

Instructors should be prepared to provide all materials for demo. If participants need to purchase tools or materials from the instructor or before the event, communication needs to be provided in a written manner at the table with prices, listed or provided to event organizers to be shared with information about event. 

Instructors are also able to sell tools, materials, or finished product before or after the class if they wish. These transactions should be kept separate from tickets and will be the responsibility of the instructor. On some occasions, location, specific, instructors may not be able to sell separately and we reserve the right to adjust accordingly.

Instructors will be paid out for the tickets collected at a rate of $3 for every $5 ticket a split of 60/40 with the event organizers. There is no fee to participate as an instructor, and no percentage will be taken of profits made from sales of additional materials, tools, or products sold tableside. Fees taken help to pay for event costs and marketing.
